Research absent from debate over Harreld’s hiring at University of Iowa

Since Bruce Harreld was appointed as president of the University of Iowa I have read many opinions. Although I believe ethical-based reasoning is paramount, what I have not read is a research-based reason why hiring a non-academic to lead a research-intensive university is problematic.

I would like to add such an opinion in light of the recent sanction by the American Association of University Professors. Part of the AAUP sanction rested on the concern that the Board of Regents hired a president who lacked respect of the institution over which he presides.
